ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to "identify”, "analyze” and "construct” a framework to quantify the relationships between several determinants of organizational preparedness for change in the start-ups during the COVID-19 emergencies.Design/methodology/approachTotal interpretive structural modelling (TISM) is used to find characteristics that assist in analyzing the readiness or preparedness level before initiating a change deployment process in start-ups. A cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC) analysis is performed to determine the driving and dependent elements of change in start-ups.FindingsFrom literature research and an expert interview, this study selected ten variables of change preparedness to explore inner interconnections and comprehend the inner connections factors. The findings depict that clarity of mission and goals, reward system, technological advancement and motivational readiness have been considered the most important readiness factor for deploying organizational change in start-ups during the COVID-19 emergencies.Practical implicationsThis research will aid the management and researchers gain a better understanding of the factors that influence change preparedness. Constant observation of current changes in the start-ups and the external environment will aid in improving the quality of products or services provided by the start-ups during the COVID-19. The start-ups can use these criteria linked to change readiness. The priority of each element is determined using MICMAC analysis and ranking using the TISM technique, which assists start-ups in ordering the enablers from highest to lowest priority.Originality/valueThere is no research regarding factors influencing organizational readiness for change in start-ups during the COVID-19 emergencies. This research gap is filled by analyzing aspects linked to organizational readiness for change in start-ups. This gap inspired the present study, which uses the "Total Interpretive Structural Modelling (TISM)” technique to uncover change determinants and investigate hierarchical interconnections among factors influencing organizational readiness to change in start-ups during the COVID-19 emergencies.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the radio frequency identification (RFID) strategic value attributes (RFIDSVAs) mechanism selections preferences and also integration of RFID tags with technology coordination tools (IRTWTCTs) alternatives ranking performance decisions in supply chain management (SCM). RFID-enabled techno-economic feasibility decisions are enhancing the SC visibility in apparel supply chains (ASCs). The RFIDSVAs mechanism selections have performed significant agility to strategic competitive advantages, namely, inventory visibility, multi-tags ownership transfer within trusted third party, etc.Design/methodology/approachFuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) and FAHP-fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) approaches have been used to evaluate the quantitative assessment of RFIDSVA mechanisms selection decision based on weight priority orders and IRTWTCTs alternatives selection in ASC networks. The comparison of FAHP and FAHP-FTOPSIS approaches to evaluate the integrated framework develop in RFIDSVAs mechanisms and IRTWTCTs alternatives selection decisions in Indian multi-tier ASC networks.FindingsThe result found that the FAHP-FTOPSIS approaches have used to prioritizing the RFIDSVA mechanism selection weights and also identify the IRTWTCTs alternatives ranking preferences order in apparel SCM. The comparison between the FAHP and FAHP-FTOPSIS approach to quantitative assessments from RFIDSVA mechanisms and IRTWTCTs alternatives selection decisions, which enable them SC agility potential across multi-tier visibility in ASC networks. ASC stakeholders can be benefited by techno-economic feasibility decisions, RFID-enabled shop floor activities, multi-tags ownerships transfer in SCs and knowledge-based cryptography tags/items separation in SCs.Research limitations/implicationsThe research work has considered only five RFIDSVA mechanisms and also three integration of RFIDTWTCTs alternatives in multi-tier ASC. The strategic competitive advantages are achieved by RFID-enabled break-even tags price decisions and also techno-economic feasibility decision by contractual design multi-tier SC stakeholder's involvements.Practical implicationsThe pilot project study explores that the quantitative assessment decision has based on RFID-enable techno-economic feasibility in ASCs. Stakeholders can be benefited by inventory control of the financial losses, reducing the inventory inaccuracies and multi-tags ownership transfer within trusted third-party traceability in ASC networks.Originality/valueThis study explores the RFID-enabled apparel SC process and activities visibility (natural fibre's fibre producer, fibre dyeing producer, yarn spinning producer, knitting and finishing producer).

ABSTRACT

The application of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) in the field of logistics leads to the emergence and development of the concept of logistics 4.0. Many I4.0 technologies have been applied in the field of logistics. The goal of this research is to analyze the applicability of nine key I4.0 technologies in logistics centers (LC). For this purpose, an integrated MEREC (MEthod based on the Removal Effects of Criteria)—fuzzy MARCOS (Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to COmpromise Solution) model was developed. The applicability of nine I4.0 technologies was evaluated based on 15 subcriteria within three main groups of criteria, namely, technological, social and political, and economic and operative. Using the MEREC method, the weight values of the criteria and subcriteria were determined, while the technologies were ranked using the fuzzy MARCOS method. Based on the results obtained by applying this integrated MCDM (multicriteria decision-making) model, CC was identified as the best alternative, i.e., the technology that is most applicable in logistics centers, followed by IoT and big data. An analysis of the sensitivity of the obtained results to the change in the importance of the criteria was carried out, which shows certain changes in the ranking when the importance of the most important criterion changes.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This research paper highlights the economic impact on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) due to Coronavirus outbreaks. It proposes factors that influence the strengthening and survival of SMEs. Design/methodology/approach: In this research, resilience is reflected in the following aspects hope, problem resolution and persistence. This quantitative study analyses a purposive sample of 120 small and medium-sized firms in India. The study's primary data are the responses to questionnaires issued to respondents, analyzed and hypotheses formed and tested using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. Findings: The study results show that all the variables significantly reduce the impact of COVID-19 on SMEs. The presented model is expected to help researchers, business modelers, analysts and real professionals with further studies in the SME context. Originality/value: This new approach adds to the business resilience knowledge of SMEs and has practical implications for manufacturing organizations seeking to become robust during and after COVID-19. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Under the impact of COVID-19, the global economy exhibits obvious slowdown. In such situation, the issues on how to keep balance between supply and demand in SCM (Supply Chain Management) operation have been more apparent than before. For SCM rebuilding, S&OP received extensive attention worldwide. However, there are few examples of successful implementation of S&OP in Japan because Japanese have not been growing accustomed to the phrase S&OP, although the challenges in SCM operations and PSI (Product, Sales, Inventory) management are recognized. Thus, no clear and exact solution is found to guide the operation. In order to further improve the current management level, a new design proposal of data model is rendered to advance the current PSI management that introduces the concepts of S&OP. Especially, we will address the motivation why we need use multidimensional database architecture to design the S&OP process instead of using RDB (Relational Database) which is often used in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Digitalization in the crisis has contributed to increasing the level of resilience of business entities to economic downturns and bankruptcy risks. The article aims to empirically study the use of digital tools and crisis management methods in business entities. The research methodology is based on a case study of companies in various sectors of the economy on the integration of technological solutions during the pandemic in 2020. Statistical analysis was used to study the state of information technology financing during the crisis. Results. During the pandemic, since the beginning of 2020, the global level of funding for information technology (IT) by companies of different sizes has been growing. Depending on the size of the business entity, investments in technological solutions and equipment differ in volume: small firms invest more in hardware projects, and large firms - in commercial services. The critical digital tools for crisis management in companies are Big Data / Analytics (64%), Cloud Technology (50%), and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (44%). Analysis of the volume of different segments of the Enterprise application software market in 2020 shows companies' use of different types of enterprise software for different purposes and management functions. The analysis of companies' cases in using digital technologies during the crisis shows a high return on digitalization in a short time (0.34 years). Business entities are focused on integrating technologies to solve problems related to improving relations with suppliers, and customers, optimizing business processes, personnel management, and increasing operational efficiency. Integration of digital tools into various subsystems of company management (suppliers, customers, staff, shareholders) provides instant qualitative and quantitative effects.

ABSTRACT

Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) are significant contributors to economic growth and employment and therefore playing a vital role in wealth creation and human welfare. Yet despite their critical importance, SMMEs are yet to realize their full potential due to numerous challenges presented by the nature of operations in a global market, including the emergent hyper digital contexts as presented by COVID-19. Mobile Cloud Based Enterprise Resource Planning (MCB-ERP) systems present opportunities such as on-demand use, low upfront capital expenditure, security and stability, easy upgrade, and low operational and maintenance costs for SMMEs operating in these global markets. This paper reports on a systematic review of 35 peer reviewed journals and conference papers to identify MCB-ERP research that has been undertaken and to identify opportunities, gaps, and challenges in relation to SMMEs. The key findings suggest that researchers have mainly focused on Cloud-Based ERP adoption and implementation factors;the use, benefits, and impact for SMMEs received limited attention;and that SMME readiness for adoption is impacted by a lack of MCB-ERP vendor presence, awareness, and experience. Moreover, most of the research is not contextualized and treats SMMEs as homogenous entities operating in sectors with similar environments and preconditions. Future context specific research investigating MCB-ERPs in specific contexts, and non-ICT based sectors such as agriculture for SMMEs is recommended. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus at the end of 19, the competition among SMEs has become increasingly fierce. Based on their traditional management model and low level of informatization, SMEs have poor ability to cope with the impact of the epidemic and cannot quickly meet the new needs of target customers and new market opportunities. In the context of the impact of the epidemic situation, small and medium-sized enterprises need to optimize the inventory management system by introducing computer technology, use big data analysis technology to adapt to market demand, reduce the problem of enterprise inventory backlog, improve the efficiency of enterprise resource allocation, and maximize the avoidance of resource mismatch. This paper uses Java EE programming technology and the Spring Boot framework to design an enterprise inventory management system, which can comprehensively and directly display the enterprise inventory management situation, achieve data recording, storage, and modification. At the same time, it uses enterprise inventory management data to achieve the portrait analysis of target users, improve the efficiency of enterprise inventory management, optimize the enterprise management system, and quickly meet the new needs of customers. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

ABSTRACT

Initially, many companies implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to process business transactions. However, because of COVID-19 and competitive pressure, companies expect ERP to play a higher role in increasing business process outcomes and agility. This study investigates the effects of ERP usage on business process outcomes and organizational agility in one of the largest telecommunication companies in Indonesia as the company struggles to redefine its huge ERP investment. The research deployed a purposive sampling technique involving 170 employees in one of the largest telecommunication companies in Indonesia who use an ERP system. Quantitative data was collected through online surveys using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. Interviews and observations were also conducted as a complement to the quantitative data. The findings of our study suggested that there are significant positive effects of ERP usage on organizational agility and business process outcomes. Furthermore, business process outcomes positively impacts organizational agility. © 2022 IEEE.

PurposeMany organizations failed to generate profits after investing considerable money and time in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This study, therefore, sought to identify the challenges encountered by pharmaceutical firms during the post-implementation of ERP systems.Design/methodology/approachA case-based study followed by general survey-based research was carried out in pharmaceutical firms to determine the critical post-implementation challenges of ERP systems. DANP (DEMATEL-based ANP) and Wilcoxon Signed Rank test were used to find the causal/critical challenges and rank them.FindingsAfter analyzing a pharmaceutical case company and conducting a general survey among pharmaceutical companies, statistical analysis was performed to identify the most significant challenges, namely, "Inefficient troubleshooting mechanism”, "Lack of training during post-implementation stage” and "Difficulty in identifying invalid data when entered into the ERP system”. Furthermore, organization-wide challenges are considered to be the most important.Practical implicationsThe paper identifies the challenges faced during the post-implementation phase of ERP systems. This work brings out the issues with ERP systems' performance after their implementation, which is related to the quality of the ERP systems. This work will support the risk identification and mitigation during ERP implementation to eradicate the problems after its implementation. This work may trigger the ERP system developers to improve its features and performance for better manufacturing and supply chain management system in pharmaceutical firms.Originality/valueThis study is uniquely conducted in pharmaceutical firms to study the benefits and challenges of adopted ERP systems. A pilot case study served as the foundation for the generalizability of other pharmaceutical firms' findings through a non-parametric test.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper was to examine the cultural barriers that existed at various stages of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation process, using the Middle-Eastern oil and gas sector as a case study. Due to a variety of cultural implications, ERP implementation rates in the oil and gas sector in Middle-Eastern developing countries are extremely low. Although the literature highlighted numerous ERP implementation theories that attempted to overcome the cultural complexities of ERP systems, there are few studies that have framed these complexities using action research theory in order to provide potential solutions to these challenges, particularly in Middle-Eastern developing countries where cultural settings are distinct from those in Western developed countries. Action research AR, in conjunction with documentation, observations, and interviews, aided in the exploration of the culturally complex barriers encountered during the pre-implementation (plan and propose), implementation (do), and post-implementation (assess and improve) stages of ERP projects conducted within a Middle-Eastern oil and gas organisation. This article confirms numerous cultural implications at each stage of the ERP implementation process, including team conflict, managerial authority, and a lack of an IT culture, all of which contributed to the project's delay. Other impediments, such as a lack of commitment to training and technophobia, persisted throughout the post-implementation phase and the subsequent follow-up experience under the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This article contributes to theory and practise by highlighting the culturally complex barriers that underpin many ERP implementations in the Middle Eastern oil and gas sector. This information can assist practitioners and researchers in developing future research and ideas to mitigate future ERP implementation challenges in this region.

The article discusses and analyses the importance of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) principles in the University environment. It is crucial to properly evaluate and assess the effectiveness of the university's administrative and academic staff performances as an organizational form. In the last couple of years, besides the negative impact, COVID-19 positively impacted the technological development at the HEIs. So, the ERP system remains a powerful program that allows businesses to systematize all important processes. Drastically, doing so reduces costs and the possibility of making mistakes, thereby increasing efficiency and profitability. The ERP system comprises the main sections of an organization, such as financial, human resources, production, logistics, etc., but to the present does not cover the whole university's administrative and learning activities. Thus, most HEIs effectively implement technologies and E-Systems but, in most cases, are fragmented and do not cover whole university activities. The purpose of the article is to create one united platform based on an ERP system, whereby we will get the new model of the University Recourse Planning (URP) system and will be implemented and facilitate the: unified digital database, improvement of university efficiency, less bureaucracy, delayed decisions and the and quality improvement. As a result, all the data will be shown as a "Dashboard" to the top management of HEI, which will perceive information about the weaknesses and gaps for achieving specific objectives. © 2022 IAMUC. ABSTRACT

The digital transformation of healthcare companies in times of Covid-19 was a relevant factor in sustaining the great demand for healthcare services, allowing the establishment of new communication channels, forms of payment, information processing, and online medical consultation services, among other services. This transformation implies substantial changes in people’s culture and businesses, through a systematic, strategic and cultural change process, supported by the application of cutting-edge technologies that allow the systematization of processes and adequate data analysis. This research shows the digital transformation of the Médikal Center, which integrated technological changes within its processes such as migration to a cloud computing scheme allowing optimization of investment costs in IT infrastructure;migration to a more stable ERP;replacement of manual clinical laboratory processes by automated processes;generation of dynamic reports using data analytics thus improving decision-making at the managerial level;and establishment of new contact channels with the user such as the chatbot and mobile applications that allowed greater attention to customer demand. In short, this digital transformation process has allowed improving the quality of service, customer satisfaction, and supporting the decision-making of the company’s executives, but in order to achieve this purpose, it was necessary to use methodologies supported by the best practices in the management of planning and implementation of IT projects. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

In order to cope with the changing era of the innovative management paradigm of the manufacturing industry, it is necessary to advance the construction of smart factories in the domestic manufacturing industry, and in particular, the 3D design and manufacturing content sector is highly growthable. In particular, the core technologies that enable digital transformation VR (Virtual Reality)/AR (Augmented Reality) technologies have developed rapidly in recent years, but have not yet achieved any particular results in industrial engineering. In the manufacturing industry, digital threads and collaboration systems are needed to reduce design costs that change over and over again due to the inability to respond to various problems and demands that should be considered when designing products. To this end, we propose a VR/AR collaboration model that increases efficiency of manufacturing environments such as inspection and maintenance as well as design simultaneously with participants through 3D rendering virtualization of facilities or robot 3D designs in VR/AR. We implemented converting programs and middleware CPS (Cyber Physical System) servers that convert to BOM (Bill of Material)-based 3D graphics models and CPS models to test the accuracy of data and optimization of 3D modeling and study their performance through robotic arms in real factories.

ABSTRACT

Purpose>This paper proposes a decision-making framework for assessing various dimensions and barriers that have affected the admission process in management educational institutions during the ongoing pandemic. The framework considers the interrelationship between the obstacles and highlights the importance of each barrier.Design/methodology/approach>An integrated method based on decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory and analytical network process is proposed to structure the barrier assessment framework. Results obtained from the study are validated by comparing them against the conventional analytical hierarchy process.Findings>The results obtained from this study indicate four significant dimensions that hinder admission in Indian management institutes, namely, governmental, financial, sectoral, institutional and market. The top five barriers are demand shift towards technical (alternative) skills, acceptance of the graduated students, lack of industry–institute collaboration, lack of long-term vision and opening new Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) and Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs).Research limitations/implications>During this ongoing pandemic, many educational institutes have been forced to shift from the traditional classroom to a virtual teaching model. In this regard, this study helps identify and assess the barriers to admission in Indian management institutes during this epidemic and thus, contribute to the literature. The findings will assist all stakeholders and policymakers of management institutions design and develop appropriate managerial strategies. The study is conducted in the Indian management educational institute context and can be extended to technical education institutions for deeper insights.Originality/value>The paper develops an assessment framework for analysing the barriers to admission in Indian management institutes during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Research implications are discussed in the context of a developing country.

First, this paper expounds on and compares the traditional and CBEC logistics models. Then, the CBEC logistics system is constructed and adjusted according to system construction requirements. Further, two key subsystems are designed: the logistics object distribution subsystem and risk detection subsystem, based on the deep learning backpropagation neural network (BPNN) algorithm. The relevant parameters of the object distribution subsystem are calculated and sent to the risk detection subsystem model and tested. It is concluded that the sorting completion rate before 18:00 can reach 95.2%, indicating that the proposed CBEC logistic system can meet the needs of CBEC logistics enterprises. Logistics risk detection’s expected and actual outputs can fit 99%, indicating a tiny deviation. The research has certain reference significance for clarifying the logistics system and service mode of CBEC.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 health crisis restrictions affecting Industrial Engineering students doing internships in laboratories and companies with training partners challenged teachers to design realistic, alternative activities where students could apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom. In this situation, the VEP (Virtual Enterprise Planning) simulator was born, which replicates the processes of a car assembly plant using ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) with elements including quality, statistics, experiment design, and problem-solving. This research involved developing the simulator design processes from ideation prototyping to product release. The simulator objective was for the students to learn specific Industrial Engineering topics about car assembly through gamification. A secondary goal was to offer students a platform to apply classroom learning to substitute factory projects and practices. Using gamification strategy, we improved learning, developed students' competencies, and increased motivation in our students. In addition, we used Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality(AR) technologies to enable the students to experience the processes and products of the Meccanos manufacturing plant. To date, 365 students have been impacted by the use of the virtual plant.
